La Rosière and Italy: Our Plan for the Day to Aosta

From La Rosière, Italy is just a few kilometers away. That’s one of the things we love most about our destination: after just a few turns, you leave Savoie behind and enter the Aosta Valley.

So, if you're staying with us at I.L.Y Hotels La Rosière, why not take a day to cross the border?

1. Head toward the Petit-Saint-Bernard Pass

After a hearty breakfast at I.L.Y. Hotels La Rosière, we headed for the Petit-Saint-Bernard Pass, at an elevation of 2,188 meters.

The road connecting La Rosière to Italy offers a magnificent view right from the start. At the summit, you cross the border almost without thinking, with the Alpine landscapes serving as a guiding thread.

That’s also what makes La Rosière so unique: here, a day can begin in France and continue in Italy.

2. Discover La Thuile

Once you've crossed the pass, welcome to Italy!

First stop: La Thuile, a charming Italian village nestled in the heart of the Aosta Valley. Take some time to stroll around, soak up the Italian atmosphere, and—why not?—stop for your first coffee.

On a day when you're not running, it's also a chance to simply enjoy the scenery and the Italian way of life.

3. Continue on to Aosta

From La Thuile, continue on toward Aosta, the capital of the Aosta Valley.

Here, the atmosphere changes: narrow streets, bustling squares, and Roman ruins give the city a completely different feel from that of La Rosière.

Take the time to stroll through the historic center, linger at a sidewalk café, and sample the local specialties.

4. Enjoy Italian cuisine

A day in Italy wouldn't be complete without a gourmet break, of course.

Pasta, pizza, cold cuts, and cheeses: make the most of your visit to Aosta to discover a cuisine that’s different from what we offer here.

And after this little Italian getaway, it will be time to head back to La Rosière at a leisurely pace.

5. Head back to I.L.Y Hotels La Rosière at the end of the day

After a day of exploring, it's such a pleasure to return to your hotel.

Back at I.L.Y Hotels La Rosière, you can extend this Franco-Italian day with a drink at St B., on our terrace overlooking the mountains.

And for dinner, you can choose between two different atmospheres: our Bonami restaurant, with its gourmet and welcoming cuisine, or Le Mazot, our restaurant dedicated to Savoyard and mountain specialties. Fondues, raclettes, and tartiflettes take over from the day’s Italian flavors.

A day in Italy, an evening in Savoie: that’s part of the I.L.Y Hotels La Rosière experience.

From our hotel, you can enjoy a stay that brings together two cultures, two cuisines, and two ways of experiencing the mountains.

And in the end, maybe that’s what we love most about it here: the feeling of getting far away, without ever really leaving the Alps.
